My project

Why?

Since I was a child, I have always found relaxation in nature which is why I prefer the presence of naturally inspired products. My interest in design, strengthened by my woodworking skills have positioned me to create a wooden desk lamp that is functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Brightness and colour temperature can have a significant impact on the user and it is important to optimize these settings depending on the task at hand to improve the user experience.

Creation of a number of prototype models utilizing different styles has created an enjoyable challenge so far as it has been my first experience with the manufacturing process.

The name WLAMP comes from the combination of W, for wind which is derived from my last name, and LAMP, for the product I create.

How?

With this being my first attempt at the design process, I started with a number of sketches to define the designed I would focus on. This allowed me to create a couple prototypes so I could finalize my first design. Through the creation of a small personal workshop I was able to produce my own prototypes.

This allowed me to best match the prototype to the home environment such that it would fit in but stand out simultaneously.

Environmental sustainability is an important factor in my design so all lamps are produces with sustainable materials and are energy efficient. The utilization of LED’s allow for long life and low power consumption.

For who?

I believe everyday products can be produced to transcend their traditional functions. Whether though unique aesthetics or increased functionality, the product should support and inspire the user.

The product I offer is for anyone who is environmentally savvy and can appreciate the simplistic beauty natural products provides.
